Man Utd officials fear they’ve made colossal transfer blunder, with £70m-plus thrown away

by Alex Mathews October 4, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Manchester United are reportedly regretting their decision to sell Mason Greenwood to Marseille last summer for just £27m.

The forward has been in brilliant form, scoring five goals in six games in Ligue 1. Reports now suggest that Barcelona could make a £60m offer for Greenwood in 2025.

Key figures at United believe Greenwood could be worth £100m in the near future, meaning they may have missed out on a potential £73m profit.

United’s Backup Plan: Sell-On Clause

Although United sold Greenwood for less, they included a 40-50% sell-on clause.

If Barcelona’s reported £60m move happens, United could receive up to £30m from the deal.

This, combined with the original transfer fee, would bring United’s total earnings from Greenwood to around £57m, still much less than the £100m they fear Greenwood might eventually be worth.

Greenwood’s International Future

In another twist, Greenwood could be switching international allegiances.

Once a part of England’s youth setup, the forward is now looking to represent Jamaica on the international stage.

Interest in Garnacho Grows

Meanwhile, United’s young star Alejandro Garnacho is attracting interest from both Barcelona and Juventus.

Although reports suggest Garnacho could be valued at £50m, insiders claim United would not entertain offers below £70m.

Garnacho remains highly rated at Old Trafford, and a sale is considered unlikely despite the growing interest.

Potential Managerial Change at Old Trafford

In other news, Manchester United could be considering managerial changes, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly being eyed as a possible replacement for Erik ten Hag.

Tuchel is currently unemployed, and United officials have him as their top candidate should they decide to part ways with Ten Hag.

‘A great fit’: Pundit tells Man United to hire rival Prem boss to replace Ten Hag, Ashworth is a fan

by Alex Mathews October 1, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Manchester United is facing more struggles under Erik Ten Hag, and rumors are growing about a potential new manager coming in.

The latest name being talked about is Newcastle’s boss, Eddie Howe.

After another tough game, where United lost to Tottenham, fans and experts alike are wondering how long Ten Hag can keep his job.

Ineos Keeping Faith in Ten Hag for Now

Over the summer, Ineos decided to stick with Erik Ten Hag, despite many wondering if his time was up.

They only extended his contract for another 12 months, a sign that the club isn’t fully committed to him long-term.

Adding Ruud van Nistelrooy as his assistant also had some people questioning if the former PSV manager was being lined up as a possible interim boss should things go wrong.

With the new owners, Ineos, looking for stability, Van Nistelrooy could be seen as a safe pair of hands if United needs to make a quick change during the season.

However, Ten Hag still has time to turn things around, but it’s clear that pressure is mounting.

Eddie Howe Seen as a Good Fit for Manchester United

One of the biggest names being mentioned to replace Ten Hag is Eddie Howe, Newcastle United’s manager.

Darren Bent, former Tottenham striker, believes Howe could be a perfect fit for United.

He told talkSPORT that Howe’s connection with Dan Ashworth, Manchester United’s new sporting director, could make this move possible.

Howe has impressed at Newcastle, taking them from a relegation-threatened team to one fighting for a Champions League spot.

His ability to get the best out of players, like turning Joelinton into a top midfielder, makes him a great candidate to bring United back to its former glory.

He’s known for creating teams that play with energy and purpose, something United has been lacking.

Ashworth and Howe’s Strong Working Relationship

Dan Ashworth, who recently joined Manchester United, worked closely with Howe at Newcastle.

Ashworth has been praised for his methodical approach to building successful teams.

When the Saudi takeover happened at Newcastle, Ashworth didn’t rush into signing big-name players.

Instead, he focused on building a solid, long-term strategy, which paid off for the club.

Howe has also praised Ashworth for his leadership and calm approach.

If Manchester United’s board decides to make a managerial change, Howe’s familiarity with Ashworth could make him a strong contender for the job.

Ten Hag’s Critical Week Ahead

Erik Ten Hag is facing a make-or-break week, with important games against FC Porto and Aston Villa.

If United loses both, it’s possible the Dutchman might not survive the upcoming international break.

Fans are hoping for a turnaround, but with United’s current form, there’s a lot of uncertainty about the future.

The arrival of Eddie Howe could be the fresh start Manchester United needs, but for now, all eyes will be on Ten Hag to see if he can save his job.

48-Year-Old Manager Tipped to Replace Ten Hag as Manchester United’s New Boss

by Alex Mathews September 30, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Manchester United’s season is off to a rough start, currently sitting 12th in the Premier League after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

Despite a summer of financial backing and five new signings, Erik ten Hag’s future is uncertain.

Reports suggest Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi, who has won five trophies with Inter, could replace him.

Former England boss Gareth Southgate is also on the club’s shortlist.

Man United’s struggles are both in the league and Europe, raising concerns about their future.

Simone Inzaghi as the Potential New Manager

Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi has emerged as a top candidate to replace Ten Hag.

Known for his tactical mastery, Inzaghi has a stellar track record, including taking Inter to the Champions League final in 2023.

However, whether Inzaghi would take the role remains to be seen, given the challenges previous managers have faced at United.

Struggles on the European Stage

Ten Hag’s issues extend beyond the Premier League.

Manchester United drew 1-1 against FC Twente in their Europa League opener, and with Porto up next, things could get tougher.

With the team just four points above the relegation zone, the pressure is mounting.

Erik ten Hag’s £19m Gamble on Diogo Dalot Backfires as Spurs Dominate

by Alex Mathews September 30, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Manchester United suffered a heavy defeat against Tottenham Hotspur with a chastening 3-0 score and people started to critique the decision-making of Erik ten Hag once again.

The game as usual was all about the defence and mistakes made in them, particularly by Diogo Dalot who is extremely overplayed because of key injuries like Shaw and Malacia.

Even though Dalot had reasonably good games earlier in the season, fatigue showed on him as a clear example was his inability to stop Tottenham’s first goal, leading to a disastrous performance.

Looking back at the way Ten Hag didn’t rest Dalot in earlier games may have cost United dearly in this match.

Overuse of Dalot

Having begun every game so far this season, Dalot was beginning to look tired, more so in the Spurs match.

His failure to keep up with Brennan Johnson’s run contributed to Tottenham’s opening goal, and his lack of energy was evident throughout the game.

Ten Hag’s Mismanagement

There are those who believe that Ten Hag did not take the appropriate steps to defend Dalot against Twente for the repeat match risks Dalot’s overexertion.

Even if other academy options like Toby Collyer did well in other matches, it still overworked Dalot, which affected his game.

With this, United have no choice but to rectify the defensive problems before more damage is sustained.

Ten Hag ‘out of his depth’ after controversial Bruno Fernandes red card in ‘absolutely disgusting’ Manchester United defeat

by Alex Mathews September 29, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Erik ten Hag is under increasing scrutiny after Manchester United’s disappointing 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke, along with Bruno Fernandes’ red card, left United in chaos.

Critics, including Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp, slammed the team for a “disgusting” performance, questioning Ten Hag’s tactical abilities and leadership.

Bruno Fernandes’ Red Card and Tactical Struggles

Manchester United’s poor form continued as they struggled against Spurs, with Bruno Fernandes controversially sent off in the first half.

Ten Hag admitted the defeat was one of the worst under his management, but he remains optimistic.

Despite the growing pressure, the Dutchman insists he does not fear losing his job, claiming that both the ownership and players are united behind him.

The first goal, coming just two minutes into the match, exposed defensive weaknesses, with Spurs’ Micky van de Ven running unchecked for 80 yards before assisting Brennan Johnson’s opener.

Ten Hag acknowledged that such lapses were unacceptable, especially after a similar incident in their previous Europa League match against Twente.

He emphasized that these defensive errors must be fixed, stating, “These things are impossible in top football.”

Growing Concerns Over United’s Form

Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp were particularly vocal in their criticism.

Neville called the performance one of the worst he’s seen under Ten Hag, labelling it “absolutely disgusting.”

Redknapp went further, suggesting that United are “going backwards” under Ten Hag’s management, questioning his ability to motivate the team.

Neville also raised concerns about whether the players are buying into Ten Hag’s tactics, as they have now failed to score in three of their last four league matches.

He believes the pressure on Ten Hag is mounting and could become unbearable if results don’t improve soon.

With upcoming fixtures against Porto in the Europa League and Aston Villa in the Premier League, the next week could be pivotal for Ten Hag’s future.

Ten Hag’s Confidence in a Turnaround

Despite the harsh criticism, Ten Hag remains confident that Manchester United can recover.

He insists that the team is aligned and that they are working towards improvement, though he admits that time is needed due to injuries and recent signings.

He also rejected the notion that his job is at risk, saying, “We are all on one page or in one boat together.”

However, with pundits like Jamie Redknapp suggesting Ten Hag looks “out of his depth” and with no excuses left, United will need a quick turnaround to restore faith in their manager and the direction of the club.

Manchester United Set to Trigger Release Clause for Euro 2024 Champion

by Alex Mathews September 29, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Considering buying Nicolas Williams off Athletic Bilbao is reportedly something Manchester United would seriously consider next summer.

After contributing to their triumph in Euro 2024, Williams has attracted attention from many top European clubs, including Barcelona.

Video By: SVMM

Impressive Form at Athletic Bilbao

Williams had an outstanding season with Bilbao, a season in which he produced 17 goals and 11 assists.

His style of powerful attacking play combined with his ability to influence a game have made him one of European football’s most sought-after prospects.

Even though Barcelona sought his services, Williams stayed at Bilbao for another year.

But that still hasn’t stopped all the idle talk about his future.

United’s Future Plans

If Antony leaves the English football club Manchester United at the end of 2025, the Red Devils are considering Williams to fill his position.

Antony has struggled to justify his £86 million transfer fee and has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

United’s management is keen on strengthening their attacking options, the team’s leaders are looking everywhere for potential new acquisition examples like Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho to play key roles in the future.

Competition for Signature

Referring to Spanish media Fichajes, the chase for Williams has intensified.

However, while Barcelona and Manchester United reportedly remain interested in the player, his buyout clause will be a hotly debated topic among European clubs.

In order to beat out their rivals, United are prepared to make a significant financial effort.

With the season now under way, it looks increasingly likely Nico Williams will be leaving Bilbao, and both Manchester United and Barcelona are piling heavy money into chasing him.

Relations between those chasing his signature are only in their beginning stages now, and fans will be keen to see where this exciting young talent ends up.

Manager “seriously interested” in becoming United boss makes big claim, it’s not good for Ten Hag

by Alex Mathews September 28, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter is willing to return to management and claims he has learned a lot from his time.

He lasted under seven months at Stamford Bridge, with 11 defeats in 31 matches.

He leaves the Blues in a lowly 11th place in the Premier League and without Champions League football next season.

That knocked him back but he has spent the intervening years mulling over his management philosophies and working on making himself ready for another go of it.

Linked to Manchester United

Potter has previously been mentioned for the Manchester United job, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is influential at the club, an admirer of his work at Brighton and Hove Albion.

That was successful in that he turned Brighton into a solid Premier League outfit.

There have been whispers, too, that Potter was on United’s radar as a potential replacement for Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford earlier in the year when performances fluctuated under Ten Hag.

Meanwhile, Potter’s name continues to circulate as United’s future managerial options remain uncertain.

Potter Ready for New Opportunities

Potter said in a recent interview that he is ready to take up football management again.

He said that he is prepared for a while, and that he can hardly wait to proceed onward exploring new opportunities.

Potter admitted that Chelsea’s experience wasn’t as successful, but he views it as a learning experience that will make him a better coach.

He used the example of both Eddie Howe and Unai Emery, both of whom have thrived after taking time away from the game.

What’s Next for Potter?

There is much curiosity over where Potter will manage next, as potential openings become available and jobs open up in the Premier League or overseas.

And all while Erik ten Hag feels the heat in his job at Manchester United with Potter’s still being mentioned.

Potter, though, says the next job “must be me”, and he took his time to reflect before deciding what he should do next.

Fans and pundits are also keen to see where Potter lands in his next chapter in football management.

Signed in 2024, Now Worth 100% More: Man Utd Struck Gold on Ten Hag’s Best Signing Yet – Opinion

by Alex Mathews September 23, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Manchester United, Erik ten Hag’s side started the Premier League campaign with some inconsistencies.

The rapid emergence of new signing Noussair Mazraoui has been a silver lining.

The Moroccan full-back arrived for just £13 million from Bayern Munich but has become one of United’s most important defensive cog.

Video by: NSSHD77

Mazraoui’s Strong Start

Mazraoui has caught the eye of supporters and experts with his displays.

In these six appearances, the young defender clearly demonstrated his composure and his capacity to set the pace of the game.

While he is known for his versatility to operate on either flank, making him a valuable asset for Ten Hag’s tactical approach.

Having previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, this has certainly helped him integrate himself ideally into United’s style of play.

His Value Doubles

There was a muted arrival for Mazraoui but his market value has now rocketed up to £26 million, per Transfermarkt.

He carries numbers which justify a place among the very best full-backs in Europe, ranking in the top percentages for assists, tackles and aerial duels.

For a team crying out for stability, Mazraoui has been the best of both worlds in providing that defensive and offensive contribution.

Ten Hag’s Best Signing?

While Manchester United has seen mixed results under Ten Hag, Mazraoui stands out as one of the manager’s best value-for-money signings.

His impressive start hints at a bright future, with his current market value set to increase even more as he continues to adapt to the Premier League.

For a modest fee, United might have found a defensive gem in Mazraoui, proving that quality signings can still come at a bargain price in today’s inflated market.

With performances like these, Mazraoui could be a key player in Manchester United’s resurgence.

Report: Liverpool Set to Overtake Man Utd in Race for “Great” Star Signing

by Alex Mathews September 22, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Liverpool are said to be ready to compete with Manchester United for the signing of Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson in the January transfer window.

The Reds, who are in the market for a defensive upgrade, have kept tabs on Robinson as a top target.

Why Liverpool Want Robinson

Liverpool started the season reasonably well under new manager Arne Slot, but they are not stopping to add to their current squad.

Liverpool view Robinson as more of a long-term option with first-choice left-back Andy Robertson turning 30.

Liverpool scouts have been impressed by Robinson at the beginning of this season.

Robertson, however, will not be immediately replaced at Liverpool but the club are looking to plan for life after him in the future.

Kostas Tsimikas has not worked out as a back-up so far and Robinson could be that solution to offer cover at left-back for Liverpool.

Manchester United’s Interest

Robinson is also a target for Manchester United. The Red Devils are eager to add more defensive cover after losing a number of players with injury issues in their backline.

Robinson is viewed by Erik ten Hag as a useful addition he can make to his squad.

While United won’t want to miss the American defender, making this transfer battle with Liverpool a key one to watch.

Robinson’s Current Form

The 26-year-old left-back has done a lot for Fulham, showing himself as a competent defender and being good going forward.

Demonstrating his attacking threat, in the 2024/25 Premier League season he started all five games and contributed two assists.

Fulham head coach Marco Silva has hailed Robinson, labeling him a “fantastic athlete” and a “very important player” for the team.

Robinson’s stats this season highlight his potential fit for Liverpool.

With Robertson providing fewer assists this season, Robinson’s creativity could be a perfect match for Klopp’s attacking style.

A January Transfer Battle Looms

As January approaches, both Liverpool and Manchester United are expected to go head-to-head for Robinson’s signature.

Fulham may be reluctant to sell, but a significant offer from either club could tempt them into a deal.

Whoever wins this transfer battle could be securing one of the Premier League’s top left-backs, and Robinson could make an impact at either Liverpool or Manchester United.

Crystal Palace boss rules injured trio out of Manchester United match

by Alex Mathews September 20, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Manchester United is in much better shape this season, especially compared to last year when their defence was badly hit by injuries.

In their heavy 4-0 loss against Crystal Palace, they had to rely on makeshift centre-backs, Casemiro and Jonny Evans, the only available options.

However, this time, United’s defensive situation looks stronger.

With Lisandro Martinez, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, and a fully fit Jonny Evans available, the Reds have more defensive options for their upcoming game against Palace.

Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount have also returned to training and should be available for selection, adding more attacking power to the team.

Crystal Palace’s Injury Problems

Crystal Palace, on the other hand, faces its own struggles.

Manager Oliver Glasner confirmed that three players will miss the match against United.

Midfielder Cheick Doucoure is expected to be out for several weeks. Matheus Franca and on-loan defender Trevor Chalobah will also not feature in this week’s game, reducing Palace’s squad depth.

Key Players to Watch

Despite the injuries, Palace still boasts some strong players. Eberechi Eze and Jean-Phillipe Mateta are expected to pose a threat to United’s defence.

In the midfield, Adam Wharton will also be one to watch. Former United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, now with Palace, will be looking to keep United at bay.

United beat Palace in the Carabao Cup last season but lost both home and away in the Premier League.

With both teams battling injuries, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this time.
