Leeds United ‘medical booked’ after £5m deal agreed as Bristol City agree four-year deal

by Alex Mathews July 20, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Leeds United officials have made a significant move in the transfer market by agreeing on a £5 million deal for Sheffield United defender Jayden Bogle.

The 22-year-old is set to undergo medical and join Leeds’ pre-season training camp in Germany.

A Strategic Signing

Leeds have struck a deal for Bogle having had two previous offers knocked back, with the player entering the final 12 months of his contract.

It is one of the signings being made by Chris Wilder in an attempt to rebuild his side at Bramall Lane, amid fears they may otherwise lose Bogle for nothing next summer.

Leeds’ new addition is expected to make his debut during their pre-season games in Germany, adding strength and experience to their defense.

Bristol City’s New Striker

Bristol City, meanwhile, have brought in striker Sinclair Armstrong from Queens Park Rangers. The 20-year-old striker Armstrong has signed a four year contract.

Bristol City head coach Liam Manning lauded Armstrong’s physical traits and potential, citing his natural speed and strength as stand-out qualities.

Armstrong is brought in to bolster Bristol City’s attacking options and help make higher scoring displays more frequent.

Leeds United’s Pre-Season Plans

Leeds United play their final pre-season friendly against Valencia at Elland Road on Saturday, August 3 before the start of the new Championship season.

The Whites fans are excited to see how Bogle will fit in and help Marcelo Bielsa’s as they bid for promotion from the Championship.

The capture of Sinclair Armstrong is a statement from Bristol City as they build on and off the pitch, with Messi one claiming their team will compete in the Championship.

His pace and power should provide a different dynamic to their attacking play, making him a valuable asset for the upcoming season.

One significant move by both Leeds United and Bristol City then, as they look to continue building in preparation for the new campaign.

West Ham submit bid to sign World Cup winner this summer

by FNUK July 20, 2024
written by FNUK

West Ham United have reportedly launched a bid to sign Al Ittihad ace N’Golo Kante this summer, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.

Despite enjoying great success under David Moyes, winning the Europa Conference League, the Hammers opted to part ways with the Scotsman at the end of last season.

After letting the former Manchester United boss leave, the East London club have decided to appoint Julen Lopetegui as the new manager and the Spaniard has been looking to make a squad overhaul before the start of next season.

West Ham have already purchased Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham, however, they have also been linked with numerous other names.

But, writing on The Athletic, Ornstein has reported that the Hammers are now considering signing Kante to reinforce their engine room in this transfer window.

West Ham considering signing Kante

The journalist further claims that the Premier League club have already submitted a verbal £15m proposal but Al Ittihad have rejected it as they don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than £25m.

Ornstein says that the Saudi Arabia club don’t want to sell the World Cup winner with the player happy to remain in the Middle East, therefore, West Ham may find it difficult to get this deal done.

After showcasing his qualities for Leicester City, the 33-year-old joined Chelsea. The Frenchman enjoyed success with the Blues but after struggling with fitness problems, he was allowed to leave the club as a free agent before signing for the Saudi club.

However, Kante has showcased in the recently concluded European Championship that he still is an excellent player, although he isn’t playing in a top league at the moment.

Therefore, Kante would be a shrewd acquisition for West Ham should they acquire his service. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Lopetegui’s side eventually manage to purchase him in this transfer window.

Meanwhile, having finished ninth in the Premier League last season, it remains to be seen how West Ham perform under the former Real Madrid manager’s guidance next campaign.

£40,000-a-week player who Farke wants to sign doesn’t want to join Leeds

by Alex Mathews July 18, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Leeds United have been dealt a blow as midfield target Oliver Skipp does not want to join the club.

Leeds went out and signed Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell and Alex Cairns as it gears up for another season in the Championship with Daniel Farke at the helm. But they’ve also lost top stars like Archie Gray and Glen Kamara.

Leeds wanted to sign Oliver Skipp who now gets paid £40,000-a-week at Spurs. Farke, who previously managed Skipp at Norwich, was keen on bringing him to Elland Road.

However, despite Leeds’ interest and the opportunity to join on loan with an option to buy, Skipp would prefer a stay in the Premier League.

Farke’s Praise and Future Moves

Farke has also commended Skipp during their time at Norwich, lauding his professional approach and consistency. As a result, Leeds will have to find alternative midfield targets as their pursuit of Skipp seems unlikely to join.

Leeds, managed by the 49ers Enterprises, must look for other ways to add reinforcements having lost a number of players from their squad.

Next Steps for Leeds United

Fortunately for Leeds, the transfer window is still open so that the new players can be recruited. The search for a new midfielder will get to play in place of the departed Gray and Kamara. Even in the face of the challenging deals, the club retains its hopes and aspirations.

Therefore, the supporters are looking forward to seeing what the team would look like with Farke at the head. All in all they remain on the hunt for new faces to improve their ranks ahead of a debut Premier League campaign.

MOT View: Leeds striker needs to quit Elland Rd ASAP to save his career

by Alex Mathews July 17, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Joe Gelhardt should seek a loan exit this August to avoid a stalling career last season.

The 22-year-old made only 13 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, most of which came as starts. Gelhardt scored in the EFL Cup against Shrewsbury, but has found first team football hard to come by.

Gelhardt has lost ground with Gray, Archie Gray an England Under-16 international signed from US Sassuolo Youth last summer for £1 million and now worth £40 million at Tottenham Hotspur, above him in the pecking order.

Over the course of four years, Gelhardt has just 54 first-team games under his belt while Gray made 52 appearances in a single season last year.

A Loan Spell and Its Implications

Gelhardt spent the first half of 2023 out on loan at Sunderland, participating in more games for them (18 league and 20 total) than he had in nearby seasons to those for Leeds.

It just emphasizes that need for competitive football and that’s something Leeds currently are not able to provide.

Permanent Move: The Best Option

A move away from Elland Road for Gelhardt would suit both his career and Leeds as a new layer permanently.

That could help him in finding a club to play regularly at and Leeds would get the salary off their wage bill, making space for future talent.

He is behind on the pecking order for manager Daniel Farke with promotion to the Championship a target once again.

Joe Gelhardt needs to leave Leeds United in the summer Providing him with an opportunity to rekindle his career also affording the playing time that will finally see his development realized.

On the other hand, they are Leeds who would benefit from a reshuffle so that their promotion aspirations can be obtained in an easier manner.

PSG ‘advancing in talks’ to sign £113m key target

by FNUK July 17, 2024
written by FNUK

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ‘advancing in talks’ to sign Napoli star Victor Osimhen this summer, as per the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Nigerian has enjoyed success at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium over the last few years after joining from LOSC Lille. He has established himself as a talismanic figure for the club, helping his team win the Scudetto after more than three decades.

So, it has been reported that having showcased his qualities in the Italian top-flight, Osimhen is willing to leave Napoli this summer to take a new challenge in his career.

Arsenal have been suggested as a potential suitor for him. But, it now looks like PSG are going to be his most likely destination should he eventually leave Napoli over the coming weeks.

Writing on X, Romano has reported that PSG have opened talks with the player’s representatives to persuade him to join and are ‘advancing in talks’ over the deal.

PSG in negotiations to sign Osimhen

The journalist further claims that PSG have identified Osimhen as a priority target to bolster their attacking department with the player keen on moving to the Parc des Princes.

Romano wrote:

“Paris Saint-Germain are advancing in talks with Victor Osimhen’s camp as their interest is now getting concrete. Osimhen, keen on joining PSG and open to the move if they can agree on deal/fee with Napoli. He’d be very high on PSG list, if one centre striker left.”

It has been reported that Osimhen has a £113m release clause included in his current contract and it is going to be interesting to see how much money the Azzurri demand to sell their star man.

Following Kylian Mbappe’s departure as a free agent, Les Parisiens are reportedly willing to splash big money in this transfer window to reinforce their squad and challenge on all fronts next season.

Osimhen is a proven striker and has displayed his qualities at the highest level in recent years. It has even been touted that the African is one of the best strikers in the world.

Therefore, he would definitely be a great coup for PSG if they eventually manage to acquire his service ahead of next season.

Micky van de Ven is not merely the world’s fastest footballer, he puts his rate to excellent use, which makes him one of the linchpins of his team.

Factors Contributing to a Footballer’s Speed

To understand what makes these footballers so exceptionally fast, it’s essential to break down the various factors that contribute to their speed.

Speed in football isn’t merely about running fast, it involves a combination of physical attributes, training, and technique.

Genetics

One significant factor is genetics, some players naturally have a higher proportion of fast twitch muscle fibers, which are essential for explosive speed and quick acceleration.

These muscle fibers contract quickly and generate more power, giving these athletes a natural edge in speed.

Strength and Conditioning

Strength and conditioning training plays a pivotal role. Footballers undergo rigorous training regimes that include sprint drills, plyometrics, and resistance training to build their leg muscles and improve overall strength.

This helps in generating more force during sprints and reduces the risk of injury.

Technique

Running technique is another critical component. Efficient stride patterns, optimal foot placement, and proper arm motion all contribute to maximizing speed.

Many footballers work with specialized sprint coaches to refine these techniques and ensure they are not losing speed due to inefficient movements.

Endurance and Stamina

Endurance and stamina are equally important. Speed over short distances is crucial, but players often need to maintain their pace over the course of a 90-minute match.

Cardiovascular fitness ensures that they can sustain their top speed during crucial moments without succumbing to fatigue.

Nutrition and Recovery

Proper nutrition and recovery strategies are also vital. Ensuring that the body gets the right nutrients, hydration, and rest allows muscles to recover efficiently and perform at their peak.

This includes a balanced diet rich in proteins, carbohydrates, and essential fats, as well as sufficient sleep.

Conclusion

The speed of a footballer is a multifaceted attribute shaped by genetics, strength and conditioning, technique, endurance, and nutrition. Each of these elements plays a critical role in enabling players to achieve the exceptional speeds showcased on the field.

Among the notable speedsters, Micky van de Ven stands out as the fastest footballer in the world, clocking an astounding top speed of 37.38 km/h. His remarkable pace, combined with his defensive prowess, underscores the incredible level of athleticism required to excel at the highest levels of the sport.

As football continues to evolve, the importance of speed remains a key factor in defining the game’s most dynamic and impactful players.

Next England Manager: Gareth Southgate Replacement Plan Confirmed as FA Release Statement

by Alex Mathews July 16, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

After eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate has resigned as the manager of England. That Euro 2024 final heartbreak was his cue to go. The Football Association must now appoint another manager.

Interim Boss Plan

The FA have said they will appoint an interim manager if a replacement is not found within the next six weeks. Someone must take command before England’s following activity. This match is against Ireland in the Nations League on September 7.

On Tuesday morning, Southgate had made his mind up. It’s time for a change, he said. England, defeated by Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal, hits the goal that won them the game in the 86th minute.

Southgate’s Journey

Southgate became England head coach in September 2016. He managed 102 matches. He steered England to two European Championship finals and took them to the last four at the 2018 World Cup. Southgate had been out of contract in December.

He said, “It is time for a change of direction, and new leadership in England”. He and his coaching staff, including assistant Steve Holland, have left with immediate effect.

FA’s Statement

FA chief executive Mark Bullingham added, “The process for appointing Gareth’s successor is under way. We want to announce our new manager as soon as we possibly can. In September, we begin our UEFA Nations League campaign, and should it be required then an interim arrangement is currently in place. Yes, we expect speculation but won’t be saying anything more on our process until the vacancy is filled.”

Notably, Bullingham saluted Southgate as “Gareth has converted the impossible job into reality and built specific groundwork for more success”.

Players, backroom team and everyone else at the FA and as well as in football across the globe treat Hodgson with dignity or respect. Despite not reaching a final, both Steve and Gareth appeared in semi finals which remains an event to be remembered but I am very proud of all that the two men accomplished on behalf of their country.

Possible Replacements

The door is open to replace Southgate and suggestions of another name are already being bandied about. Favorite for the job is former Chelsea and Brighton boss Graham Potter. Mauricio Pochettino or Jurgen Klopp are also mentioned given they have no club at present.

Southgate’s Emotional Statement

In an emotional statement, Southgate confirmed the news. He said, “As a proud Englishman, it has been the honor of my life to play for England and to manage England. It has been my life, and I lived it. Well the time has come to turn the page and a new chapter over. My last game as manager of England was the final in Berlin against Spain on Sunday.”

He added, “We have the best fans in the world, and their support has meant the world to me. I’m an England fan and I always will be. I look forward to watching and celebrating as the players go on to create more special memories and to connect and inspire the nation as we know they can. Thank you, England for everything.”

Southgate’s departure marks the end of an era. The FA now has a big task to find the right person to lead England into the future. The next few weeks will be crucial as the search for the new manager begins.
