Joe Gelhardt should seek a loan exit this August to avoid a stalling career last season.
The 22-year-old made only 13 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, most of which came as starts. Gelhardt scored in the EFL Cup against Shrewsbury, but has found first team football hard to come by.
Gelhardt has lost ground with Gray, Archie Gray an England Under-16 international signed from US Sassuolo Youth last summer for £1 million and now worth £40 million at Tottenham Hotspur, above him in the pecking order.
Over the course of four years, Gelhardt has just 54 first-team games under his belt while Gray made 52 appearances in a single season last year.
A Loan Spell and Its Implications
Gelhardt spent the first half of 2023 out on loan at Sunderland, participating in more games for them (18 league and 20 total) than he had in nearby seasons to those for Leeds.
It just emphasizes that need for competitive football and that’s something Leeds currently are not able to provide.
Permanent Move: The Best Option
A move away from Elland Road for Gelhardt would suit both his career and Leeds as a new layer permanently.
That could help him in finding a club to play regularly at and Leeds would get the salary off their wage bill, making space for future talent.
He is behind on the pecking order for manager Daniel Farke with promotion to the Championship a target once again.
Joe Gelhardt needs to leave Leeds United in the summer Providing him with an opportunity to rekindle his career also affording the playing time that will finally see his development realized.
On the other hand, they are Leeds who would benefit from a reshuffle so that their promotion aspirations can be obtained in an easier manner.
