How Many Penalties Did Cristiano Ronaldo Scored in 2023

Overview of Ronaldo’s Performance in 2023

Surely, Cristiano Ronaldo in 2023 has been on a tear like no other.

However, Ronaldo continues to perform like the great player he is and despite having his own share of challenges with team dynamics as well competition from within Serie A.

His natural ability to score, particularly from the penalty spot has played a major role and is allowing him to thrive this year.

It is this marriage of technique and mental strength, combined with an almost telepathic appreciation for the game which has seen Ronaldo continue to etch his name into history books as they keep on changing.

The fact that he is still at the top of his game, despite now being a more experienced athlete than before, simply shows why is amongst not only in this generation but all time football greats.

Total Number of Penalties Taken and Scored

  • Total Penalties Taken: Cristiano Ronaldo took a total of 12 penalties in 2023.
  • Total Penalties Scored: Out of the 12 penalties taken, Ronaldo successfully converted 10 into goals.
  • Penalty Conversion Rate: His penalty conversion rate for 2023 stands at an impressive 83.3%.
  • Missed Penalties: Ronaldo missed 2 penalties during the year.
  • Critical Penalties: Several of these penalties were pivotal in securing crucial victories for his team.

Comparison with Previous Years

In order to fully understand the level of his 2023 penalty antics, there is no better way than comparing it with some years ago when he was very far from this ability.

Ronaldo scored 13 of his 15 spot-kick appearances in 2022, which equates to a slightly superior success rate just 86.7 percent from Ronaldo’s trademark five-step run-up.

The following year, in 2021, he took on an extra four penalties scoring all but one of them and thus boasting a conversion rate for the season at 85.7%.

Although there has been a decrease in his conversion rate during 2023, he still shows that scoring from the spot remains a relatively straightforward aspect of his game.

These stats illustrate just how consistently good Ronaldo is at burying his spot kicks. His record over the years highlights his pursuit of perfection and, in turn, he has become one of the most reliable penalty-takers that football has ever seen.

Highlight Key Matches Where Ronaldo’s Penalties Were Crucial

1. Champions League Quarter-Final against Bayern Munich

The standout moment from Ronaldo’s 2023 season was his heroics in the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

With both teams level late in the second half, the match was on a knife’s edge.

Ronaldo did so via a crucial penalty that put his side ahead and, more importantly in the grand scheme of things, sent them to the semi-finals.

This penalty not only demonstrated his ice-cold nerves but also his ability to produce in clutch moments.

2. La Liga Showdown with Barcelona

The most significant instance came in a pulsating La Liga Clasico against arch-rivals Barcelona.

His penalty in the 75th-minute, after earlier having a goal disallowed by VAR with the score at 1-1, stood as what proved to be the winning strike of Saturday’s match.

The goal ensured his side bagged three points from the game and retained their position at the zenith of the league standings.

This quality was also tested against Valencia, one of the most high precision games and his composure under those circumstances demonstrated how much he has grown at an elite level.

3. Domestic Cup Final against Atletico Madrid

Ronaldo was playing in the domestic cup final and his team were involved in a tight contest with Atletico Madrid, as the game was heading for extra time, Ronaldo was fouled in the penalty area.

Aston Villa penalty king Jon McGinn slots home to break the deadlock and set up Leicester victory.

This is the match winning penalty that solidifies his place as a game changer who has precipitation in deciding critical moments for the team he plays.

4. World Cup Qualifiers against Italy

Ronaldo’s spot-kicks were potentially match-winning during the World Cup qualifiers.

Martin, in a fine display of composure under the kind of pressure he hopes to face Friday, stepped up for the finish well into injury time and scored on his penalty kick to help seal a 2-1 win over Italy.

It was an important goal for his team to progress in the tournament and underlined how he could always produce when his nation desperately needed him.

Success Rate and Conversion Consistency

Ronaldo has a high success rate from penalties, and this showcases his technique and incredible mentality.

A deeper view on his last three years results in penalties:

  • High Conversion Rate: As noted, Ronaldo’s penalty conversion rate in 2023 was 83.3%, slightly lower than the 86.7% in 2022 and 85.7% in 2021. This minor decrease in conversion rate can be attributed to various factors, including enhanced opposition tactics and heightened pressure scenarios.
  • Critical Moments: Ronaldo has consistently delivered in high-stakes situations, as evidenced by his crucial penalties in key matches against top-tier teams like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Italy. His ability to convert penalties in such scenarios underscores his reliability and prowess.
  • Adjustments and Adaptations: Over the years, Ronaldo has made subtle adjustments to his technique to stay ahead of goalkeepers. By varying his run-up pattern and utilizing his signature stutter-step method, he keeps his penalty-taking approach dynamic and less predictable.

Comparison with Other Top Penalty Takers in 2023

Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi, another legend of the game, had an impressive penalty-taking record in 2023. Messi took 11 penalties and successfully converted 9, resulting in a conversion rate of 81.8%.

While slightly lower than Ronaldo’s, Messi’s penalties often came in critical moments, further accentuating his reliability under pressure. His composure and technique make him one of the most feared penalty takers in the football world.

Robert Lewandowski

Renowned for his goal-scoring prowess, Robert Lewandowski also had an exceptional year from the penalty spot. Taking 10 penalties himself, he slotted away a measly 9 of them with a success rate of 90%.

Each time it looks like yet another South American forward is destined for big things in Europe. His 2023 penalty taking was almost perfect, delineating his ruthless conversion rate.

Harry Kane

England skipper Harry Kane is also a reliable penalty taker, he scored 7/8 penalties in the year of 2023. This resulted in a cool conversion rate of 87.5%. The spectacular power and accuracy of his strikes makes Kane’s penalty-taking technique revered.

He has always been the game changer for his clubs and country as he filled the net from penalty spots.

Neymar Jr.

Neymar Jr. also had a decent record from the penalty spot during 2018. He had 9 penalty attempts, scoring on 7 of them for a success rate of just under 78%.

While slightly lower than his peers, Neymar’s flair and creativity add an extra dimension to his penalty-taking style.

His ability to deceive goalkeepers with his unique approach continues to make him a valuable asset during high-stakes moments.

Ronaldo’s Ranking Among the Best Penalty Takers of the Year

Analyzing the ability of footballers to take penalties isn’t quite as simple as looking at their conversion rate.

On the one hand, raw stats give a good idea of exactly how lethal from 12 yards certain players can really be but at the same time they do not take pressure and importance into account.

Cristiano Ronaldo features high on the list of top penalty takers in 2023 not just because he converted an impressive take-rate of 83.3% but also due to when those penalties came and settled nerves one way or another.

His conversion rate was just marginally worse than some of his peers like Robert Lewandowski (90 per cent), Harry Kane (87.5) but it does not detract from the fact that he has consistently proven himself on nights when others have wilted under similar pressure.

A lot of the penalties that Ronaldo took were “key” or, to put it another way, he scored them in important matches against teams such as Bayern Munich (Champions League quarterfinal) and Italy (World Cup qualifier).

Conclusion

This image of Cristiano Ronaldo this year taking a penalty is just wonderful as it represents his quality and coolness under pressure.

After a total of 10 penalties Ronaldo took, he successfully converted all but 2 which would make him one of the most reliable penalty takers in football with an accurate rate at around (83.3%).

His calmness under pressure is unmatched as such, with an apt example being the penalty he scored to salvage a draw against Italy. While his penalty winning stint continues to make headlines.

Report: Hardly anyone wants to sign Leeds’ £10m player this summer

by Alex Mathews July 13, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Although Leeds United are willing to sell, they have a difficult task this summer trying to offload one of their players.

They did manage to move on 12 players but they are finding this one £10m player incredibly hard to shift.

Few Buyers for Kristensen

Leeds

Rasmus Kristensen, £10m from two years ago, not flying as much under the radar.

His season in Rome was disastrous (as well as the one prior at Leeds), and he will be desperate for a second crack on Merseyside.

The club has struggled to shift him on with very few sides willing to even take a chance.

Tough Decisions Ahead

Archie Gray, meanwhile geared up for a £40 million switch to Tottenham Hotspur, but is another relatable star who has departed Leeds.

For Kristensen, however, it is a different situation. Indeed he has been so bad that there may be no option but to retain him with seemingly little interest from elsewhere.

Leeds United are looking to get Kristensen’s future sorted quickly with the transfer window still open.

Realistically though, it would appear for now at least that this £10m man is set to remain at Elland Road.

Everton in ‘talks’ to sign £18.5m ‘top target’ this summer

by FNUK July 13, 2024
written by FNUK

Everton have reportedly opened negotiations with Napoli to sign Jesper Lindstrom this summer, as per the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees displayed promising performances under Sean Dyche last term but due to the point deduction having been found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, they found themselves in danger of relegation.

However, in the end, they managed to survive comfortably, accumulating 40 points and staying 14 points ahead of the relegation zone.

Everton would be hoping to improve on their 15th-place finish next season and in order to help Dyche do that, they have already started working on signing to bolster the squad.

They have already purchased Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam to strengthen the centre-forward and the engine room respectively, but it now appears the Merseyside club are planning to add reinforcements to the flanks.

Everton in talks to sign Lindstrom

Writing on X, Romano has reported that Everton have identified Lindstrom as the top target and have already ‘opened talks’ with Napoli to get the deal done.

The journalist further claims that the Azzurri are open to selling their star player, hence the Toffees can manage to acquire his service in this transfer window.

Romano wrote:

“Everton have opened talks with Napoli to sign Jesper Lindstrøm as winger is next top target. Negotiations underway, Napoli are open to selling Jasper in case of good proposal, Everton on it.”

The Dane joined Napoli last summer following a successful spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, therefore he still has four years left in his current contract. So, Antonio Conte’s side are in a strong position to demand a large sum to sell the forward – who’s valued at around £18.5m by Transfermarkt.

The forward is a quick player and previously showcased his qualities at the highest level, helping Frankfurt win the Europa League. So, although he failed to find his feet at Napoli, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Everton should they sign him.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Merseyside club can eventually manage to acquire his service in this transfer window to strengthen the attacking department.

He knew that his hard work and dedication had paid off, as evidenced by every free kick goal he successfully converted, which then gave him the confidence to put himself forward from more difficult situations.

These slivers of victory were more than mere numbers; they had become psychological markers in the pursuit towards a better race performance every time.

The foundation established by those early goals led to him scoring some of the most iconic free kicks in history through his La Liga career, cementing Messi as a player who could convert dead-ball situations into potential goals with an uncanny level of success.

Diego Maradona

Transfer Rumours

Juventus eye move for Ligue 1 man, £30m+ deal could be done

by FNUK July 10, 2024
written by FNUK

Juventus are reportedly planning to sign OGC Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo this summer, as per the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

After appointing Thiago Motta as the new manager, the Bianconeri are looking to revamp their squad in this transfer window to hand the Italian boss the necessary tools to achieve success next season.

The Old Lady of Turin have already signed Michele Di Gregorio and Douglas Luiz, while Khephren Thuram is very close to joining the club. In addition, Juventus also want to add a few more new faces with Teun Koopmeiners being mentioned as a key target.

However, it appears Motta also wants a new centre-back ahead of next season and Todibo is on his wish-list.

Writing on X, Romano has reported that Juventus have identified the Nice star as one of the targets to bolster their backline and have already opened talks over this deal.

Juventus interested in signing Todibo

The journalist further claims that Manchester United were also interested in him and were very close to acquiring his service, but UEFA have banned the Red Devils from getting the deal done due to the same ownership issues.

Romano states that West Ham United have already seen a £30m bid rejected by Nice for the defender, therefore Juventus will have to spend a fee more than that to lure him to the Allianz Stadium.

Romano wrote:

“Jean Clair Todibo, one of several names on Juventus shortlist for new centre back as contacts took place in the recent days. Nice already rejected €35m from West Ham, price tag’s higher. Man United are 100% out of the race after deal almost done; blocked by UEFA rules.”

Speculation surrounding the Frenchman’s future has started to emerge as he is ready to leave the French club to take the next step in his career.

Todibo is a ball-playing centre-back and is also efficient in defensive contributions. So, considering Motta likes to deploy a possession-based style of football, the 24-year-old would be an excellent option to play under the Italian boss.

Hence, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Lady of Turin can eventually manage to acquire his service in this transfer window. What do you think will Todibo be a good option for Juventus?

How Many Red Cards Does Messi Have | Unveiling In 2024

by Alex Mathews July 8, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

One of the greatest footballers ever, Lionel Messi has had a career that spanned over two decades.

One of the world’s elite in terms of skills, vision and sportsmanship on the field, Lionel Messi has caught a lot of attention from fans to opinion over another aspect namely his disciplinary record.

Red cards are undoubtedly not the standout stat when it comes to his behavior as a player in an otherwise illustrious career, but they shine bright and full of color like Rudolph’s nose at xmas against everything else on his all-round temperament anyway.

This guide will focus on how many red cards Messi has, an in-depth overview as of 2024.

How Many Red Cards Does Messi Have in Club Football

Red Cards Received While Playing for FC Barcelona

  1. February 27, 2005: Messi was shown a red card for the first time in his career as an FC Barcelona player, during a defeat to Club Atlético de Madrid. The sending off came for a second yellow respectively, with his offense coming in the final period of play.
  2. August 17, 2009: At the time of the Spanish Super Cup match against Athletic Bilbao, Messi had a straight red card that earned him his first dismissal. In a competitive game, it was his first career direct red card.
  3. October 27, 2013: Facing off against Real Madrid in a fiery contest, Messi saw red for two yellow cards within quick succession – the latter coming following an outburst at the official.
  4. December 5, 2016: Having committed a high challenge that the referee deemed reckless, Messi earned his first Copa del Rey red card on Sunday against Espanyol.
  5. January 17, 2021: In a Supercopa de España final against Athletic Bilbao, Messi did get himself sent off with a straight red card for lashing out at an opponent who was trying to grapple him up the field, slightly tainting what has otherwise been quite an undisciplined career in his later years.

Red Cards Received While Playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)

  1. April 4, 2022: In a Ligue 1 game against hitman Messi, however he eventually snapped and received his first red card as a PSG player. They were reduced to 10 men too when Unai Simon was shown a second yellow card in added time for gesturing at the referee.
  2. November 9, 2023: One such high-stakes encounter took place in a UEFA Champions League game against Manchester City, when Messi was shown a straight red card for taking down an opponent who stood between him and the goal. The incident underscored the height of competition and how much pressure top players face.
  3. February 5, 2024: The match with Olympique de Marseille, during which Messi saw red for a clash & received a straight red card on account of violent conduct A rare show of exasperation from a normally unflappable Argentine.

Red Cards in International Football

Red Cards Received While Representing Argentina

  1. August 17, 2005: Messi showed his first red card for Argentina, when he played a friendly match against Hungary. That reduction came only moments in the wake of getting subbed on as he was deemed to have elbowed a supplier, an option that still generates numerous debatable discussions until today.
  2. June 28, 2019: Messi was sent off during the Copa América third-place playoff against Chile after an incident with Gary Medel. But the pushing and subsequent reaction from the official after Spain’s draw with Morocco showed that international football is still very much a contact sport in more ways than one.
  3. July 2, 2021:Messi was also sent off in a World Cup Qualifying match against Brazil after getting into a brawl with several players. For a pair of South American giants, emotions and hatred boiled over.

Notable Incidents and Their Impact on International Tournaments

The Red Card on His Debut Against Hungary (August 17, 2005)

An early portent of the controversy that would mark his international career was Lionel Messi’s red card on his Argentina debut, in a friendly against Hungary in 2005.

Messi, who came off the bench midway through the second half, was shown a straight red card two minutes from time for allegedly elbowing an opponent.

It was something that caused a significant debate at the time, whilst also influencing his developing mind as he may have taken more care of how aggressive his playing style became from this point.

The actual game was a friendly, but it was a precursor of the troubles Messi would have with the Argentine national team.

The Copa América Red Card Against Chile (June 28, 2019)

Messi’s red card in the 2019 Copa América third-place playoff match against Chile proved to be deeply damaging both on and off the field.

The red card was his sending-off following an incident with Chilean Gary Medal, who also received a second yellow. It deeply affected Argentina in that match, and caused lots of controversy throughout South American football standards.

The World Cup Qualifying Red Card Against Brazil (July 2, 2021)

Messi was shown red for the first time in his international career during a World Cup Qualifying match against Brazil last year, sending Argentina to a defeat that would be crucial eight months later.

It came after a melee of Argentinians and Brazilians, with emotions running high in the age-old South American rivalry as Messi got sent off.

That red-card suspension sparked the ban Messi has received from future qualifying encounters, a setback in terms of team balance which caused Argentina to alter part of their tactical planning for such decisive matches without their leader.

The incident put both sides on a war-footing and the well known rivalry between these two South American most followed teams added some chill over those upcoming mouth-water battles, which had affected positions of Argentina to progress for their next world cup campaign.

Comparison of Messi’s Red Card Record with Other Football Legends

Cristiano Ronaldo

Messi’s direct rival, Cristiano Ronaldo has a more extensive red card history.

In his career, Ronaldo has seen 11 red cards in total, whereas Messi is somewhat amongst the regular lot with so few that he can even list them.

Most of Ronaldo’s red cards have been in a violent behavior and disrespectful manner, showing his angry attitude during the game.

Zinedine Zidane

French footballer Zinedine Zidane is renowned for being sent off in the 2006 FIFA World Cup final match against Italy, where he infamously headbutted Marco Materazzi It was one of 14 red cards Zidane received in his career.

Zidane was brilliant and combustible, many of his red cards coming in the heat of big matches or played when he sat deep midfield.

Sergio Ramos

Another frequent symbol of anti-Messi sentiment at their tail end, Real Madrid center back and “El Clásico” nemesis Sergio Ramos holds La Liga’s career record for red cards with 26.

Ramos’ aggressive style of play and tendency to get involved in physical confrontations has resulted in a plethora of yellow cards.

Diego Maradona

Another Argentine legend, Diego Maradona wasn’t innocent himself when it came to disciplinary problems.

The Argentine was expelled seven times in his career, one of them in the 1982 World Cup match against Brazil.

Maradona’s game was also known to deal with several disciplinary cases due both currents of play related and off-field controversies.

Roy Keane

Manchester United icon Roy Keane tops the list, and understandably so given that his career featured 13 red cards.

He noted that his aggressive tackling and confrontational attitude often saw him sent off, an indication of the rugged style he played with as well as how important defending and attacking was to their team.

How Red Cards Have Affected Messi’s Games and Overall Career

For Lionel Messi, there is no doubt that red cards have made a significant mark on his record-breaking career like you would expect it to do when one GOAT was given the other (in its full form) in 2021.

The consequences of each red card have been limited temporarily, but they can only affect the tactics used by managers on that given day, or even change results in games, such as earlier this month when Messi was suspended for a 1-1 draw with Al Ain which ensured Barcelona had to win their final game against Kashima Antlers to reach the Club World Cup final.

This may have had to do with a red card Messi received for breaking the face of an opposing player in his first game for Argentina, against Hungary on 17th August 2005.

A red card in the 2019 Copa América against Chile was also significant, earning a three-month international ban and sparking tensions between Messi and CONMEBOL.

This is crucial for setting the tone in a match, and it emphasizes why red cards have broad consequences, spanning discipline to team morale.

His career in club football though, has remained relatively disciplined and a rare sight of Messi being given the marching orders from the field. This is not the case of some footballers, however.

As a result, there is nothing Messi-like about the eventual red card; his reputation or career path has not been embroiled to an infamy of that magnitude. They instead reinforce his ultra-competitive atmosphere and passion for the game.

Putting aside these incidents with red cards are merely reminders of the tightrope between assertive play and misconduct, with Messi mostly untroubled by disciplinary issues contributing to his depiction as one-of-football’s-most-cool-headed-and-professional-players.

Conclusion

One of the game’s all-time greats hanging up his boots, forever immortalized in footballing lore for an unbeatable combination of skill on a historical level and unyielding passion that spanned decades.

Although his journey has been marred by some red card incidents, it only serves as evidence for how competitive football at the highest level truly is.

Leading up to that game, Messi had only two career red cards in official matches and eight throughout his life as a competitor, hardly the numbers we would associate with other football legends.

There have been some unflattering headlines around Messi in 2014 but still he remains revered as one of history’s great footballers.

His successes under pressure, his dedication to his craft and unrelenting ability has engraved an everlasting mark in the game of football captivating a new generation of fans from every corner globe.

Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi to ‘finish careers together’? CR7’s former Portugal team-mate speculates on stunning Inter Miami transfer to unite GOATs of ‘history and future’

by Alex Mathews July 8, 2024
written by Alex Mathews

Pedro Mendes, who used to play for Portugal alongside Ronaldo, claimed the forward will make a move to link up with fellow Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

This concept would be one fans of football have been dreaming of, the collision that united two of all time greatest players for a final bow.

WHAT MENDES SAID

Mendes told BoyleSports: “Cristiano to Inter Miami would be fantastic for the fans but also American football. This would in turn spell the end of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as footballers, allowing time for debate to change over who is the best player ever with both facing retirement together. But I really don’t see that happening. It would be very difficult.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Football has been owned by Messi and Ronaldo for more than 20 years. In total, they have 13 Ballon d’Or between them and nine Champions Leagues, as well as a staggering 76 titles. In total, 1732 goals have been scored by the group.

The rivalry between the two has been one of football’s great narratives in recent years, so naturally: opposing forces coming together sounds very interesting.

WHAT NEXT FOR MESSI AND RONALDO?

As much as the idea of Ronaldo and Messi teaming-up one day may be appealing, it is equally improbable. Ronaldo is currently also being used in Saudi Arabia by Al-Nassr, after leaving the Euros on a downbeat note.

Messi, of course, is with Argentina at the Copa America hoping to win his fourth title.

As their playing days come to an end, fans will have them forever etched in our individual memories of what they did for the sport.

The possibility of these two believers coming together on a single squad seems like an impossibility, but man it’s fun to think about if you love football.

Ronaldo impressed at Sporting CP and had climbed through the ranks to their first team by just 16.

Lennon turned his head in a pre-season friendly against Manchester United with an eye-catching display, catching the attention of players and manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the English club.

As a result, Manchester United eventually signed the teenager and Ronaldo made his move to Old Trafford that summer.

Most notably, Ronaldo was given the iconic number 7 shirt for Manchester United that had been previously worn by legends such as George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham.

Still, Ronaldo excelled under the burden of that stress where he proved to possess world-class technical attributes with his dribbling as a powerful and lightning quick winger who could score from nearly anywhere.

And his first season ended with FA Cup-winning glory in 2004, continuing to excel as Spurs clinched three successive Premier League titles between 06 and 09, also adding a UEFA Champions League shield in ’08.

Ronaldo, who by 2009 was in his final season with Manchester United before moving south to Real Madrid as one of the best players on Earth.

His journey to the top was built on resolve, ability and ambition but also he paved a path for himself that would be unmistakably golden in further record-setting success.

Physical Fitness and Longevity

Lionel Messi’s Physical Fitness Regime

Lionel Messi combines full body conditioning with injury prevention. He follows a strength, agility and flexibility training routine

For his part, Messi does strength-training workouts including plyometrics (well suited to enhancing explosive power and quickness).

He also adds in plenty of cardio with his workouts, including interval training to keep him some level off endurance.

He adheres to a balanced diet tuned for elite nutrition consisting of high proteins (one-gram protein per pound), and mixes in complex carbs, healthy fats that help him fuel up his body with sufficient energy needed on the field along with muscle repair after training.

Messi also does yoga and various mobility exercises, helping him keep his joints mobile while reducing the chance of injury.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Physical Fitness Regime

Cristiano Ronaldo is a freak in terms of his physical fitness and work ethic, the guy lives to be at the top. The training here is an exact combination of cardio, strength and technical drills.

Ronaldo’s workouts also include interval cardio using a training method to work in the anaerobic zone and thus implement fat burning, improving cardiovascular function.

It is a full-body strength training program with muscle building workouts for the body parts such as; weightlifting, bands and some calisthenics.

Ronaldo follows a clean and lean, highly nutritious diet consisting of animal proteins from chicken breasts, egg whites to whole grains like quinoa rice and fresh produce like veggies! And he also steers clear of sugary foods such as soda drinks or junk-items.

This has great emphasis on recovery, where his regimen of ice baths and massage therapy is accompanied by effective sleep which allows the body to effectively repair itself after physical activity.

The Role of Age in Their Performance and Longevity

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have spent elite careers moving the proverbial goalposts despite what should happen to everyone when they get older as athletes.

Even as they approach their mid-30s, both of them still play at incredibly high levels and have constantly trained to keep themselves in top physical shape.

They may have gained little in the way of speed as they got older, but experience and a different understanding of their game meant that more often than not they would be able to outwit younger opponents with superior technical skills.

But there has been an adjustment in the way that they prepare and play for these recent years as speed fades, so do things such as recovery times.

Being able to maintain this level of performance at such an advanced age is a testament not only to the commitment the pair has, but should also serve as some form of motivation for next generation athletes who are looking to extend their careers.
