Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal was a Champions League night of fast, open football at the Allianz Arena. Declan Rice struck a late equaliser to earn Arsenal a point. Eberechi Eze and Alphonso Davies scored in the first half, and Harry Kane’s penalty put Bayern ahead after the hour, according to Arsenal’s official match report.
Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal: Eze steps up after Saka goes off
Arsenal started well and passed the ball around in the opening stages. However, Bukayo Saka was forced off with a non-contact injury after just nine minutes. Eze replaced him.
Midway through the half, Eze timed his run to meet a pass from Martin Odegaard inside his own half. He got in behind the defence and finished with his left foot into the bottom corner. The assistant referee flagged for offside after the ball went in. VAR checked it and the goal stood, Arsenal said.
The lead lasted ten minutes. A pass from Kane sliced through the defence and Davies ran on to finish past David Raya on the left. Kane’s pass for the equaliser is also noted in Bayern’s own reaction piece.
Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal: Kane’s penalty after Timber handball
Chances kept coming at both ends. Just after the hour mark, Kane’s goalbound shot struck Timber’s hand, and the referee gave a penalty. Kane scored it to make it 2-1.
Arsenal kept pushing. Eze won a free kick on the edge of the area, and Havertz’s follow-up shot was cleared off the line. Meanwhile, Raya made a point-blank save from Dayot Upamecano’s header.
Bayern Munich 2-2 Arsenal: Rice rescues a point
With around ten minutes left, Arsenal drew level after a patient team move. Viktor Gyokeres laid the ball off to Rice, who drove into the area and fired a low shot into the far corner. Timber then came close to a winner late on, but his shot was tipped over.
Kane said afterwards that “we should’ve killed it off – we had the chances”, in post-match comments reported by FotMob. Bayern had trailed 1-0 and led 2-1.
Stats and what is next
Arsenal say this was only the second time they have scored first, fallen behind and avoided defeat in a European Cup or Champions League match. The other was a 2-2 draw against Bayern in April 2024. Kane became the second player in Champions League history to score in ten straight appearances, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored in 11 in a row. The match extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the competition to 15 league phase games.
Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates on Saturday at 3pm. Their next Champions League game is away to Slavia Prague on 4 November. Arsenal’s official highlights are on arsenal.com. For more from us, see our Liverpool 4-3 Villarreal report and Brighton 5-0 Crystal Palace.
