The Kerkez response is clear: Milos Kerkez says Liverpool need to return to winning games as they prepare to face LASK in the Champions League following Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester City.

That came after Liverpool’s first loss under Andoni Iraola. The defender felt the contest had been competitive before Ryan Gravenberch’s dismissal left the home side with ten men.

Kerkez response puts results first

The Kerkez response came in comments to Stadium Astro, which were carried by Liverpool’s official website. Kerkez made clear that the next result matters more than finding positives in the defeat.

“We need to win games, this club needs to win games, so we need to do that.”

The opportunity comes on Wednesday, when Liverpool visit Austrian side LASK for their second Champions League league-phase match. Kick-off at Raiffeisen Arena is 5.45pm BST.

Red card changed the City contest

Liverpool and City were level at 0-0 when Gravenberch received his second yellow card in the 62nd minute. City scored all three goals after the dismissal.

In his Kerkez response, he said Liverpool had defended well and pushed their opponents before the sending-off. He described the match as being in the balance, with the first goal still to be decided.

“We got the red and after that they kept the ball a lot and they’re really good on the ball, so it was tough.”

That assessment explains the frustration without changing the outcome. Liverpool must now recover from a home defeat while switching back to European football.

LASK offers the next chance to respond

The short turnaround means the Kerkez response must come quickly, with little time to dwell on Sunday. Liverpool head to Linz for their first away match of this season’s Champions League campaign.

The club’s viewing guide confirms TNT Sports will show the game live in the UK. Liverpool’s Match Centre will provide build-up and updates from 2pm BST on Wednesday.

Kerkez’s message is clear: Liverpool’s response will be judged by results. His comments do not settle the team selection for Austria, but they set out the standard the players want to return to.

Van Dijk was a calf concern ahead of the LASK trip.
