The Emery Aston Villa contract picture could become clearer next week: Unai Emery hopes to discuss a new deal after the club announced a shared commitment to its project beyond 2029.

The Villa manager described a meeting with chairman Nassef Sawiris as “very good” and “very positive” during Friday’s press conference, according to BBC Sport.

That follows Villa’s official statement on 4 November, which said the club’s leadership had agreed a long-term direction under Emery. It is not an announcement that a new contract has been signed.

Emery Aston Villa contract: what the club announced

Villa said Sawiris and Emery met alongside president of football operations Roberto Olabe and director of football operations Damián Vidagany.

The discussions focused on the club’s long-term sporting and institutional plans. Villa described a “clear commitment beyond 2029” to develop the club under Emery’s sporting leadership.

The club also shared photographs of the meeting on its official X account. They show Emery with Sawiris, providing the context for the latest statement rather than confirmation of a completed contract extension.

What Emery said on Friday

BBC Sport’s report of Emery’s pre-match press conference said he hoped discussions about a new deal could take place next week.

He spoke about maintaining consistency and continuing the progress made at Villa, while preparing for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Manchester United.

The distinction matters: the club has publicly set out its ambitions, and Emery has discussed the next stage of talks. Neither announcement should be presented as a confirmed new contract.

Villa’s team news for Old Trafford

Villa’s own update says Matty Cash is suspended after collecting his fifth league booking against Fulham. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is close to returning but will be assessed in training on Saturday.

Matteo Ruggeri and Amadou Onana remain out through injury. Brian Madjo returns to contention after being unavailable for the midweek Champions League game against Barcelona.

The match at Old Trafford is scheduled for Sunday, 8 November, at 16:30 GMT. Emery will be seeking a response after Villa’s defeat at Barcelona in midweek.

In the league, Villa won 1-0 at Newcastle in October, when Manzambi’s header delivered Emery’s 100th Premier League win.

Any further announcement on the Emery Aston Villa contract situation will need to come from the club. For now, the confirmed development is Villa’s long-term commitment and Emery’s stated hope of further talks next week.
