Barcelona are reportedly keen on signing Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino this summer, as per Sport

Following a disappointing campaign last term, the Blaugrana have decided to appoint Hansi Flick as their new manager after dismissing Xavi Hernandez.

So, it appears the Catalan giants are in the market to reinforce the squad this summer to help the German challenge on fronts next season against a star-studded Real Madrid team.

However, Barcelona are said to be in financial difficulties so they can’t afford to spend big this summer hence, they are seemingly exploring affordable signings at the moment.

The Spanish outlet states that Barcelona are keen on strengthening their engine room and have identified Bruno Guimaraes and Amadou Onana as the primary options.

However, the report claims the Blaugrana can’t afford to sign any of them so they are now looking to lure Merino from Real Sociedad.

The midfielder has entered the final year of his current contract and hasn’t signed an extension with La Real yet as he is willing to leave the club to take the next step in his career.

Therefore, Real Sociedad could be forced to cash-in on him in a cut-price deal this summer and could accept a fee of around £21m. So, this is a huge boost for Barcelona in pursuit of the Spain international.

However, Marca (via Sport) has recently reported that Atletico Madrid have also expressed their interest in signing Marino, hence Flick’s side are set to face stiff competition in getting any potential deal done for him.

The Real Sociedad star is a top-class player and has already showcased his qualities in the Spanish top-flight over the last few years. As a result, he is now a regular member of the Spanish national team.

So, the 27-year-old would be a great coup for Barcelona should they acquire his service. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Catalan giants can eventually manage to lure him in this summer window.
