Bayern Munich are reportedly in ‘direct contact’ with Fulham over a deal to sign Joao Palhinha this summer, as per the transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano

Following a disappointing campaign last term, the Bavarian club dismissed Thomas Tuchel. They went for numerous candidates to replace the German but eventually decided to appoint Vincent Kompany.

Therefore, the record German champions will kickstart a new era under the former Burnley boss’ guidance from next campaign. Bayern Munich have already started their summer businesses to strengthen the squad and have purchased Hiroki Ito.

However, it seems they are also plotting a swoop to sign a new holding midfielder with Joao Palhinha being their priority target. The Portuguese was heavily linked with a move to the Bavarian club last summer but the deal eventually didn’t come to fruition.

Bayern Munich want Palhinha

But, it seems they are now looking to acquire his service ahead of next season. Palhinha has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Bayern Munich and the price tag of the midfielder is expected to be around £34m-£42m.

Now, Romano states that Bayern Munich remain in ‘direct contact’ with Fulham having already seen two bids rejected by the English club. The Italian didn’t mention the exact valuation of their first two bids but he claims that although the Bundesliga giant haven’t been able to seal the deal, Palhinha feels an agreement will be reached over the coming days.

Romano said:

“Bayern and Fulham remain in direct contact for João Palhinha despite no agreement yet on the fee. Second bid sent on Tuesday has been rejected but the plan doesn’t change, Bayern want Palhinha and he fully expects to get the green light. Talks ongoing.”

The Portuguese displayed impressive performances in the Premier League having moved to Craven Cottage a few years ago. He is a regular member of Portugal national team so he would be a great coup for Bayern should they acquire his service.

Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see how Palhinha performs in the Bundesliga if he eventually manage to engineer a move to the Allianz Arena in this transfer window.
