Manchester United are reportedly planning to sign Frenkie de Jong on a free transfer in 2026.

The Dutch midfielder has been a long-term target for the club, and despite interest in 2022, a move never happened.

Under Erik ten Hag, United have continued to monitor De Jong, but injuries and a lack of regular game time at Barcelona have made his situation complicated.

Barcelona’s wage structure is also struggling due to De Jong’s huge salary, leaving the club in a difficult position to manage its finances and sign new players.

Reports suggest that Barcelona may be willing to let him leave, especially as he does not fit into the team’s future plans.

United Ready to Offer Big Deal to De Jong

Manchester United are looking to take advantage of De Jong’s contract situation, as his current deal with Barcelona runs until 2026.

Although Barcelona would like to extend his contract and sell him for a higher price, De Jong is determined to wait until his deal expires so he can leave for free and secure a lucrative contract elsewhere.

United have reportedly already contacted his agent, asking him to reject any new proposals from Barcelona, and have even offered a €15 million signing-on bonus.

The Red Devils believe De Jong would be a valuable addition to their midfield, and they are ready to make a big move in 2026.
