Premier League internationals: Gyokeres record, Havertz and Isak injury worries

by Alex Matthews

The international break is over. The Premier League’s own round-up has good news for Arsenal’s striker and worrying news for several clubs ahead of Matchweek 6.

Gyokeres sets a Nations League record

Viktor Gyokeres scored his third goal in as many matches in Sweden’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to the Premier League’s international round-up. In addition, over the international break, he is now the first player to score in six consecutive UEFA Nations League matches.

Injuries after the international break

The same report lists several fitness concerns:

  • Kai Havertz (Arsenal): withdrawn from the Germany squad during the international break with a muscle injury. Arsenal have given no official update, but the Premier League says media reports suggest he could be out for four weeks. Arsenal host Leeds United in the opening fixture of Matchweek 6 on 10 October.
  • Alexander Isak (Liverpool): left the Sweden squad with a thigh problem.
  • Cody Gakpo (Liverpool): withdrawn from the Netherlands camp with an ankle injury. Liverpool host Manchester City on Sunday 11 October.
  • Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City): therefore ruled out of England’s last two games with an unspecified injury.
  • Brian Brobbey (Sunderland): also forced off for the Netherlands against Germany with an apparent hamstring injury.

However, clubs have not confirmed the severity of these injuries in the report, so availability for the restart is still open.

Other players from the international break

On the positive side, Milos Kerkez scored his first international goal for Hungary, and Florian Wirtz scored for Germany in a 2-0 win over Serbia, per the Premier League. Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott made his first England appearance off the bench in a 2-0 win over Czech Republic.
