Manchester United’s U19 squad displayed outstanding form on Wednesday in the UEFA Youth League, storming to a dominant 6-0 win over Lithuanian side Zalgiris.

The academy side, led by Adam Lawrence, put in a stellar performance at the Leigh Sports Village, marking their second victory against Zalgiris after a recent 5-2 win.

This victory secures United a third-round spot against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, a crucial step toward progressing in the tournament.

Gabriele Biancheri, United’s prolific forward, netted his 17th goal of the campaign, while other young talents, such as Ethan Wheatley, Ethan Williams, and James Scanlon, also found the back of the net.

Ashton Missin added his name to the score sheet with a goal and assist, further highlighting the depth of talent within the academy.

Sekou Kone Impresses on the Field

A notable highlight was the debut of Sekou Kone, United’s summer transfer window addition, who was given his second appearance.

Kone, who had previously shown promise in his debut against Sunderland in Premier League 2, was brought on at half-time to replace Jayce Fitzgerald.

In the second half, Kone took control in the defensive midfield, showing off his powerful tackling, strategic positioning, and smooth ball control.

Observers, including journalist Nathan Salt, noted Kone’s skill and resilience under pressure, and a TikTok video highlighted his ability to withstand opposition pressing and deliver precise passes.

His physical strength also shone through as he easily outmanoeuvred a Zalgiris player, adding to the excitement surrounding his potential.

A Promising Future for Kone at United

While Kone is still very young, the signs are encouraging. United’s academy director, Jason Wilcox, is known for identifying promising young players, and Kone seems to be one of the latest prospects under his watch.

With Manchester United facing an ageing midfield, Kone’s development might be a timely answer for the club’s future needs.

The prospect of seeing Kone advance to the senior squad within the next year is a thrilling one, as his abilities align with manager Ruben Amorim’s midfield demands.

Until then, fans are eagerly watching as Kone gains valuable experience and hones his skills, looking forward to the day he may join United’s first team.
